A Beka Program - need feedback
|
Question:
What does everyone think of the A Beka program? A local organisation
has started a small not-for-profit private school which uses this
program. My concern is that they are using videos to deliver most of
the material. Are the videos effective? Is this a desireable
presentation? Most HSers I have talked to love the program but don't
use the videos (primarily due to the cost).
Answer: -Personally, I would use a video instead of personal tutoring only as a
last resort. I just know my kids would be bored stiff if I used it
exclusively and would get a bad taste in their mouths for "school." I'm
not ruling it out for one or two courses in high school, though.
- That was pretty much our opinion when we tried the video. Too much like
"regular" school. To structured. Inflexible. Source of a lot of tension in our
homeschool. We dumped it and went back to one room school house with books,
homeschool teacher, and computer support.
