Alpha Omega Horizons for Kindergarten
|
Question:
My wife and I have been looking at several curriculums for our
kindergarten-aged son. She has taken a liking to Alpha Omega's Horizons.
What are your opinions on this curriculum compared to some of the others
that are available? I know A Beka is popular, but I have found it to be
geared more for classroom use and tedious to use for homeschooling
purposes.
Answer: -I don't have time for a longer response right now. If you search the
Google archives of this website for the word "kindergarten," you will
see that the subject of kindergarten curriculum has been discussed here
several times. In short -- you don't need a packaged curriculum for that
age. Here's a link to get you started:

-My two younger children used Horizons. They wanted to be doing book work and
math was the easiest subject for me to give them workbooks in. It is a good
curriculum and I used it through 3rd grade, then we used Saxon 54. The
layouts in the books are bright and colorful and I didn't need the answer
key in the teacher's manual. (I did buy a teacher's manual, but didn't use
it except when I was having the older kids correct the younger's work. It
worked out well for us and I'd continue using it if we had any more to
homeschool.
