I need info on homeschooling

Question:
my dh and i have decided to homeschool our children and the problem is I know absolutley nothing on the subject. I dont know where to start or who to talk to. My children are still young ( 4.5, 2.5, 3 months ) but I would really like to start getting stuff together right now. I guess what I need is info on curriculums and networking with others and maybe just some experienences othr people have had .

Answer:
The best place to start is to get a copy of the homeschool authority, "The Big Book of Home Learning." I would try the local library if the book is too expensive for you. If it is not available, submit an interlibrary loan request for it. I would also request that your library obtain a copy. Another tactic is to buy Pride, use it and donate it to your library (if they agree to put it on the shelf, rather than sell it) and deduct the price from your taxes. It consists of four volumes. Pride's book is a comprehensive reference book for the homeschool. She lists curriculum publishers, magazines and rates them. She includes phone numbers and addresses. I would also get ahold of one of the four main homeschool magazines. Look through the ads. A less expensive alternative to Pride's book is Theodore E. Wade Jr, "The Home School Manual." The Wade book is comprehensive but it is not as thorough as is the Pride book. If you want to get a free review copy of one of the main homeschool magazines, send your request to The Teaching Home, PO Box 20219, Portland, OR 97294. Phone: (503) 253-9633. Internet site: www.teachinghome.com When you get on the mailing list of one of the homeschool magazines, they usually sell your name and you will get some junk mail that you want for a change. A few times a year you will be mailed a collection of home school curriculum, book and supply advertising cards. If cost and quality are considerations, I suggest you consider ACE and Christian Light. Both provide a variety of low cost services. For example, Christian light will keep records for you and will arrange with you to provide a H.S. Diploma. The cost is about $40 a year. Christian Light is a nonprofit Christian organization. Their courses are very inexpensive and you can get free phone consultations with certified, experienced Christian teachers.
