Classical Homeschooling and Calvert School Question
|
Question:
Can someone give me a definition of classical homeschooling?
Also is anyone familiar with Calvert school? What is your impression?
How do you like it?
I am looking into Calvert since there is a new virtual charter school
being started in Wisconsin that will be using Calvert school's
materials. I am wondering if that is a route I might want to go..
Answer: -While we don't know anyone here the uses Calvert, I'd be leery of using
an intermediary to use them. A charter school in our county was all set
to use Calvert or A Beka (IIRCC) until one student's family filed a law
suit the week before school started. They had to forget using the
curriculum because the charter school is still a public school and
couldn't use religious curriculum. It had a lot of the parents upset
because they thought they could get their children a private school
education at the cost (to them) of a public school. There was a lot of
bitter feelings and I've not heard a thing more about that particular
charter school (I'm not even sure that they were able to start up after
that). I'm not saying that everything that the government gives is a
bad thing (after all, I retired from a career that involved collecting
government paychecks), but they do have their strings attached - most
notably authority and accountability strings. It may work for some, but
that path is not a direction that the Lord has laid out for our family.
Pray *real hard* for guidance about that one.
