Best Home School Christian Curriculum?
|
Question:
Need advice and recommendations on homeschooling curricula
with a christian theme for children ages 4 and 8.
Answer: -I am using Christian Liberty Press this year and so far we love it. (Kids
included.) www.class-homeschools.com They have a complete curriculum for
each grade or you can order items individually. They also had very
reasonable prices
-s is so broad a subject that people may have trouble answering this
question. One of the hardest parts about homeschooling these days is
deciding which of all the great materials not to use. There is just too
much great stuff out there.
You need to decide on an approach to use in your home education. Do you
want structured or unstructured? Do you want a canned curriculum or do
you want to "roll your own?" Do you want textbooks, unit studies,
classical, principle or eclectic? (Or something entirely different?) The
first thing you want to do is look into the different approaches and
decide which one you like. Your decision won't be etched in stone. You
will probably change approaches every year for the first few years. That
is OK.
Read all you can about homeschooling. Get all the vendor catalogs you
can find and read them. This will help you decide on an approach. By the
time you have read all the catalogs, you will have a good idea who
offers the best curriculum in your chosen approach.
Someone else will probably list the web sites for a bunch of the most
popular vendors. Since I have a commercial interest in this site, I'll
go ahead and recommend http://www.konosetc.com/ . They sell one of the
more popular unit study curricula.
-Have you been to Kaleidoscape's message board? You could ask there.
It's a pretty active board. The URL is
http://www.kaleidoscapes.com/wwwboard/
I know Before Five in a Row is quite popular too. I've used B4FIAR and
I like it, but haven't used the regular FIAR. They have an active
message board too. Their URL is
http://www.fiveinarow.com/
And Sonlight is popular and they have an active message board. Their
message board is http://www.sonlight-curriculum.com/wwwboard/meeting/
