homeschooling history query
|
Question:
It is my understanding that in the early days of homeschooling, ABeka and
BJU would not sell books to homeschoolers.
Is this true, or was it only the teachers' guides they would not sell?
If it is true, at what point did they start permitting homeschoolers to
purchase their materials?
Answer: Had to wait until I could confirm with Mama (she's been kinda out of
it). We started HS in 85. As best as we can recall, A Beka were
not "real sure" about selling to home-schoolers. It was easy to
choose your curriculum then, there were Rod and Staff, BJU (but it
depended on who you talked with whether you could purchase the
teacher's guides), and Hewitt-Moore. Can't recall exactly when A
Beka changed their minds and started begging Home Schoolers to buy
from them.
