Christmas Gift

Question:
It is a tradition in our family that we compete to be the first to greet one another with the words, "Christmas gift!" I don't know why, but it is.

This tradition has taken on modern trappings, and, of course, we also telephone other family members in our attempt to be first. Moving to Indiana has given me a definite advantage over those of my relatives in California and the Pacific northwest.

And, speaking of Christmas gifts, I thought I'd share those of mine most related to homeschooling:

I received a copy of Penelope Wilcock's third book, which I have been wanting to read.

My library fines were paid, so I can begin building them up again.=)

One of the children has sculpted a lovely pair of figurines. Both figures are plain, offwhite, and simple. There is a mother holding a babe in her arms, and the mother is wearing a large brimmed hat. There is a father with a little girl sitting on his arm. The two figures are so designed that the father leans over the mother's shoulder looking down at the baby- the whole idea is just too charming for words, and I am amazed. Wish we had a digital camera, I'd take a picture and put it on a website.

A stocking full of gel pens and brightly and variously colored Sharpy pens and little notebooks =)

We gave:

Two beginning French texts- they belonged to my great, great grand-father A copy of Black Beauty that was my grandfather's Christmas gift in the 1900's Bolts of cloth to the seamstress (who disappeared upstairs and came down in a new jumper a few hours later). clay, paints, and tinkertoys warm glove inserts and leather glove outers to the horse girl. A warm wool coat to the new college student (a wonderful find- a thrift shop had a sale just before Christmas, a large bag of clothes the buyer chose for 8.00 I am *very* good at stuffing bags full of clothing, and we found this wool, London Fog coat in perfect condition, and made it one of about 20 items we managed to stuff into the bag) A lovely musical Jack in the Box to Angel The Lord of the Rings Activity Studio computer something or other

And a new family game, Bible Outburst, which we played in the afternoon while eating our cheese fondue.

You?

Answer:
I received 5 new dies for my Sizzix Die Cut machine :-)

I also received a bookmark knitted by my 10 y.o.

Not exactly homeschool-related, but definitely cool ... I got a few new Pampered Chef gadgets from my mom.

We gave theme boxes to the grandmothers. To my mom and her husband we gave a movie box with some new DVDs and a variety of movie snacks. To my husband's mom, we gave a "reading and relaxation" box (Barnes & Noble gift certificate, comfy slippers, coffee mug, chocolates, lotions, etc.)

For the girls, after they opened their gifts from us, I realized for the first time that we have turned a corner in their young lives. They are growing up! We did not buy them any toys ... with the exception of one new game for their Game Cube. It was mostly things like clothes, bedding, things for their rooms, etc. and a new CD they've each been wanting.

Oh and we can't forget the toe socks I put in their stockings. I don't think they've taken those silly toe socks off since Thursday morning LOL!

The 10 y.o. got a Digital Blue digital movie creator. Yesterday, the girls were making commercials and fashion reports about striped toe socks "that are all the rage this season". They are hilariously creative! Now the 10 y.o. wants to make a documentary about her family with her Digital Blue. That should be interesting
