Seattle KIRO News story on homeschooling
|
Question:
There was just a tease on KIRO (Channel 7) news in Seattle about a story they
are doing today on homeschooling. It sounded very positive; they mentioned
over a million children are now homeschooled.
I was wondering if most news stories across the US are now positive? A few
years ago at the state PTA convention I was shocked at how much negative
information on homeschooling was being promoted there.
Answer: MK. Most news coverage that I've seen is positive. What you will see
in State-school publications is usually negative. It's not surprising
that PTA views are generally hostile; the PTA is an NEA front
organization. I called into a public-access program of our local PTA and
asked "What are your largest disagreements with the teachers' union?' and
they couldn't identify any areas of disagreement. Myron Lieberman says
that the national PTA had its headquarters in the Washington headquarters
building of the NEA a few years back.
