ex doesnt want me to homeschool, legal cases?

Question:
I want to homeschool my 7 year old son. His father, who does not live with us, is not exactly warm to the idea. I'm trying to convince him. If I'm not successful I'm willing to pursue it in family court. Does anyone have any advice or experience in this area?

Answer:
- I don't know if these people can help you are not, they are the Homeschool Legal Defense Association. Their website is www.hslda.org.

- You don't say where you are,but here in Canada the courts are fine about Hs. I have a sister in the US though, and she says the atmosphere there is entirely different, and the courts are alot less likely to be on your side(she had a similar problem and was advised to try to work it out with her ex instead of the courts being involved.)

- Contact the Home School Legal Defense Assn. I only know their web address the will tell you the laws in your state and what your rights are.WWW.HSLDA.ORG

- I suggest in USA that the Homeschool Legal Defense Fund is an excellent national resource to gain access to state level network. There are many whoare in your situation as a single mom or dad who homeschool. SOme have even banded together to make the load more bearable. From there contact your state organization and the state organizations near you. From the state level resource then go to the local level. Here in Greensboro, NC there are 20 or so support groups, mostly in churches. The one at our church for instance has 45 homeschool families in a church of 3000. I know of other churches that have an even higher concentration. There are also secular support groups and there is a group called Greensboro Home Educators [a group that has grown so large that it is now broken up into 5 regional groups because of monthly meeting logistics]. This is a very long winded reply to your post only to say that we are many across the USA.
