Some questions about new product, HomeSchool Planner 2.0!
|
Question:
You just found out that your state requires you to keep track of
a whole lot of things having to do with homeschooling! Quick! Here's
HomeSchool Planner 2.0, an easy-to-use tool for homeschooling families.
This Macintosh software cuts down on the amount of typing and
calculating that one has to do in order to keep complete records. Users
can plan or log activities on any day of the week or year (not just
weekdays), and any hour of the day (not just regular school hours). It's
also very customizable, so if one family participates in totally
different schooling activities than another family, they can enter their
unique ideas.
With a point-and-click interface, homeschoolers can create a printable
plan and/or log. It's a breeze to enter start and end times, and then
HomeSchool Planner will calculate the duration of each activity
automatically! Likewise, entering grades is a cinch, and then the
program calculates cumulative grades. Users like the software because
it's a nice, neat way to stay accountable.
Among the new features now in version 2.0: a yearly calendar with all
homeschooling dates marked and counted; calculation of cumulative time
spent on each subject as well as Carnegie units for transcripts; grade
calculation on a quarterly, semester, or yearly basis; and easier
creation of new plans.

My only question is, when is the pc version
coming out? About 80 % of the world runs on pcs, not macs. Imagine
the potential sales for you!
Answer: - We're a Mac-only company at present. It's a
possibility that we will port HomeSchool Planner and our other software
over to the PC, but for now, we are sticking to the Mac.
- It is out for PC! It's called The Lesson Planner. Available from
Fortress Software, 12741 NE Halsey, Portland, OR.Developed by a
homeschooler for homeschoolers. It is quite versatile and easily used in
multi-grade home classrooms.
- So you are willing to blow off 80% of your possible market? I think
that could say a lot about the quality of your software.
- Sounds to me like she is SUPPORTING 100% of HER MARKET! Read her .sig - She
develops Mac software, her latest sw product is a Mac. No problem here.
This is not the place for discussions about various computer platforms (don't
get me started!), and I will not do so. There are about 500 pieces of
software, darn good sw, I might add, that are Mac-ONLY. Same way in the IBM
compatable world. People don't invest their money and their time developing
product and then "blow off" potential sales. They do it because they believe
developing product on a given platform is the right way to go for whatever
reasons. It says NOTHING WHATSOEVER about the quality of the product! I
remember when Excel first came out - for the Mac ONLY! They saw a need in the
Mac area and they filled it, with no initial plans of porting it over. Nothing
wrong with the quality of sw there!
