Answer: what a disparity across the states in legal requirements for home

here because original poster on this topic was home schooling in Texas.
Georgia, for example, is much stricter. Washington has more options, etc.
In a HS teaching internship in the early 80's, I found, stuffed away in the
teacher's work room, a book of the State of Florida "thou shalts" regarding
activities in "Language Arts" (English). The guidelines for each grade level
stated: "The student shall be able to..." Until now, I assumed state
educational guidelines applied to home schooling as well. BTW, I learned
more about Language Arts from two years assisting English 101 special
education instructors at a Community College than I did at the College of
Education at UF where I graduated Cum Laude.
