homeschool store ideas, please?!
|
Question:
my husband and i are thinking seriously about opening a homeschool store in our
town. there are hundreds of families in the immediate area who are driving
miles and miles into the city to get curriculum, materials, etc. i would
really like input from anyone who has owned or managed such a store as to what
worked and didn't work for you. we're thinking about passing out a survey to
see what the tope 3 or 4 curriculums that are being used are and what things
that would like us to have available for their families. we are also planning
on having a computer available so that kids and parents can try out new
software before they decide to purchase it. our children would work in the
store, and we would also have teenaged homeschoolers working there for
internships.
Answer: - There is a store in Milford, New Hampshire called The Book Celler that
you could
call. We used them when we started out. We only used them for a year,
though,
until we figured out how to get and preview materials. That may be the
problem
with running this type of store.
You might also ask the folks at the john Holt bookstore in Cambridge,
MA. Some of the people that work there are on the home-ed mailing list.
