Homeschooling a teen
|
Question:
I'm having a hard time finding a program for my teen. He is very self-directed
and smart-but super resistant to structure in a classroom..We're trying a video
program but he has already informed me that the video is a waste of time.....I
work full-time and don't have the time to look over his shoulder every minute,
which this course requires.
Answer: - I've got her book, Homeschooling the Teen Years and it's very helpful.
She has a review on this site about the American School. Maybe your son
would do better with something like that or Clonlara?
- How about no structured program. Is he responsible in other
ways, just doesn't want to do a planned curriculum? If so, let him
investigate what he is interested in. My daughter was mainly
interested in piano & computer, she did a freshman grammar book and
some math. She is now a senior in college and doing fine, she took
some hard courses had to take lower math courses to catch up.
How old is he? Friends of ours with a 16 year old who hates studying
let him take the CHSPE {California) and get a job.
If your son is self-directed and smart why not consider asking him to
propose a "game plan" for his studies. I'd had video studies myself.
Let him be responsible for his own work.
