Advice wanted... to homeschool or not to homeschool?
|
Question:
How do you like the University of Nebraska High School program? Do they
have a web page? My second son is a home schooled high schooler now. The
older one is in college already.
Answer: It's alright. World History was too easy. The textbook seems to be geared
toward 6th graders IMHO, but the syllabus they include with the course
partially makes up for that by providing a somewhat detailed analysis of the
material in the textbook. Reading seems adequate, but much of the lessons
about analyzing material are repeated year after year (although they are
applied to a different story each time at least). English thus far is very
repetive as well, teaching nearly the exact lessons year after year with
most of the new material midway through the 2nd semester. Physical Science
seems too easy and simplified.
On the other hand, American History is nice and detailed. Adv. Algebra and
Geometry seemed very thorough (unfortunately, math is my least favorate
subject. Biology is pretty good, but the textbook seems a little
outdated and simplified (again, the syllabus does pretty good job of beefing
up the material). German is ok, but the textbook is rather ancient (it
works though).
It's probably on par with average public HS college prep courses. Except
perhaps in World History.
