Textbooks and Overall Education?

Question:
Textbooks and Overall Education?

Answer:
- I'm a 10th Grade student in Texas. I am looking at Homeschooling as an alternative to going to school everyday in the crazy enviroment that it is. I was just curious, as to whether or not there are any Textbooks for different courses that are required by state/federal laws. I would like to use the same textbooks as those that my friends so at school, yet be able to stay home, get my education of the same materials. I have several friends that are currently being homeschooled, but haven't found the time to contact them and ask them this question, that is why i'm here posting about it. Any real general Info and stuff would be greatly appreciated. -.I don't know! I've never tried to locate, obtain, or use public school textbooks for my home schooled children (6th, 7th, 9th grades). You could certainly ask when you withdraw from school if they will let you take them; tax dollars paid for them after all, but I wouldn't expect a very enthusiastic response. Then check places like Half Priced Books, Amazon.com, etc., looking for what you have now.

In Texas, home schoolers are considered a private school, and therefore do not fall under the same requirements of state/federal laws that public schools do. Parents are required to teach their children in a "bona fide manner," using a written curriculum which covers reading, spelling, grammar, math and a course in good citizenship. Other than that, courses and specifics and textbooks are up to parental discretion.

There are many home school curriculum producers and sellers out there that could provide you with a wide variety of texts. A google search for "homeschool textbooks" brings up a huge selection of web pages that would help you find something that would match your interests, believes, and needs.
