Question:
I'm getting started homeschooling my 3 1/2 year old and have read some small
articles about child led learning and unschooling. Does anyone know of any
newsletters or books related to this issue that would help me formulate a
method without feeling like I have no structure to our school days?
Answer: -I especially like Growing Without Schooling magazine. Home Education
magazine is good also. Read the books of John Holt!
We unschool. We have rhythm to our days, rather than an official
structure. We get up, we go to bed, we go to the library, a new kids
magazine comes in the mail, we go to Park Day, we go to the grocery
store, we play with computer, we draw, we read.....things happen and
they provide a rhythm, a better word for our lives than structure.
Actually you probably are already unschooling your child. You provide
the appropriate tools, toys, and books for his skills. You answer
his/her questions. We find that we live and we learn and that is hard
to tell the difference.
Below is a resource list....it needs updating, but most of it is still
-I agree with Ruthann's ideas and her "Resources" list. Here's some more

This web site: http://cartalk.cars.com/About/Rant/r-rlast15.html
is from the Car Talk Guys on National Public Radio. It
is a "rant" about education that explains unschooling in a
different manner. Excellent stuff, I believe. Please
check it out! Follow ups are nice, too.
Then, this page was conceived after his original "rant":
