Home schooling children

Question:
I searched several LDS websites for information about homeschooling my children. I have all the necessary forms and all the legal particulars, but I wanted to know the churches stance on this issue and if the church offers a particular basic curriculum to follow. Are there any LDS parents who do homeschooling that can offer advice?

Answer:
-Check out HOMESCHOOL YOUR CHILD FOR FREE by LauraMaery God and Joan M. Zielinski ISPN: 0-7615-2513-0 Although this book isn't connected to your church in any way, I am sure that you will benefit from it.

-My Aunt and Uncle home teach their children. They have two daughters that are going to graduate a year before the rest of their class, had they attended a conventional school. The whole family is very active, and they have not run into confrontation regarding it.

From my understanding, the parents have nothing to do with the teaching of the children. The children receive books, tests, etc..., and study on their own. They take tests, and send them to some national processing center. I guess the only thing the parents do is make sure they don't cheat. It would save you the heartache of getting a call from their teachers.

Why did you chose this way over a conventional school?

-When it comes to forced schooling, the most distributing things that I have witnessed is the easy access to machines which distribute caffeinated soft drinks. Force your kids to go to school at a very early age, place them in a class room for long periods of time and feed their little minds with non-useful thought that will never be applied to real life, and then give them access to drugs, both legal and non- legal, and wonder why the little brats turn out the way they do.

Churches and schools go together like birds and feathers.
