Homeschooling
|
Question:
Those of you who homeschool can you share some links and where you get your
lessons/supplies?
How do you schedule your days/lessons?
Also, how do you find other homeschoolers in your area?
Keith and I have talked and we are leaning heavily towards homeschooling.
We have come back to the homeschooling discussion repeatedly. We know it's
going to take our serious commitment but from what we've read/seen it is
quite worth it.
Any words of wisdom?
Answer: -Below are some of the links I use. Don't know how old your child is and I am not
really homeschooling I think. DD is going into Kindergarten in the afternoon and
I got to work (at home) when she is home - she loves to do "school work" we are
currently doing 2nd grade stuff. (about finished with the "Big 2nd grade
Workbook")
Really don't know much about homeschooling or what you are supposed to do. She
comes and asks for more math or language or english or tells me how long she
wants to work. So I give her either some work sheets from the sites below or out
of the book and tell her to read the instructions and do the work. Some time
later she comes and shows me her work - I correct it if necessary and that is
basically it - don't know if you can call that schooling though.
Been thinking myself a lot about that homeschooling option. Kinda saddens me
(and her too) that she is going to go all day into first grade next year. She is
going to miss the "morning fun" of doing "tough things" cause school (KG
currently) is just to "hang out and do some drawings but nothing tough" (her
words)
But then I got plenty of financial problems and the only way to take care of
them is for me to work hard and lots (computer programmer) So I really do not
have time to dedicate a whole schoolday (9 - 3) to schooling. And I do not have
the qualifications I fear. Am not good in any artsy stuff. Actually what we
(she) are doing right more is slightly supervised selfschooling.
Could say that it is working. For her age she has a lot of abilities. But I have
no Idea if that would perpetuate with my limited time through the years until
graduation and college. Sofar I feel there were no real stakes in play. As it
appears to me there are not really any expectations at that age level.
School was not much help. They said "She can do far more than expected - and she
is nice and curteous and no problem - so just let her go to school and don't
worry"
Yeah but I "did far more then expected - and was no problem" until I got a bit
older and became a royal pain in the ass - cause I was bored and you got to do
something challenging - so why not challenge the teachers. I would like to keep
her attitude towards learning up and keep her challenged - so she might not have
to find other ways to find challenges like myself.
Ideally I'd like to do "halfschooling" Like we are doing now.

I am a distributor for NestFamily products that many homeschooling
parents use as supplements if you are interested.
