Homeschool laws in Pennsylvania.

Question:
Does anyone have a brief synopsis of the laws governing homeschooling in Pennsylvania, which they would care to post?

Answer:
Here's a brief synopsis of (my understanding of) PA's homeschool laws:

- File affadavit with local public school superintendent each year stating intention to homeschool, including a list of objectives for the year.

- At least one parent must have high school diploma (or equiv., I think). Parents must do bulk of teaching.

- Have children evaluated at or near the end of each school year by an appropriate professional (certified and experience teacher, child psychologist, etc.) of your choice (and at your expense)

- Make portfolio of each child's work available for review by school district

- 180 days or 900 hours (elementary) of instruction per year

- Children take standardized tests in grades 3, 5, and 8

All in all, homeschoolers currently seem to have little legal trouble in PA. The biggest problem area seemd to be here in Pittsburgh, but it's actually been quite nice here for the last few years since the former superintendent retired.

It really would be nice to have a collection of state law synopses available in a FAQ...
