Anyone in Los Angeles area with elementary children

Question:
My 10-year-old REALLY wants to start homeschooling after the Christmas break.
She has been lobbying for this for a while and I can't think of a good reason
why not. I work at home as a writer, so I am available. I have a Ph.D. in
Educational Psychology, my husband has bachelor's and masters in Math and
Physics, so I expect between the two of us we can master the 5th grade
curriculum I have even taught school before, from junior high through the
doctoral level.
I would really like to talk to some people in the Los Angeles area who are
homeschooling. (We live in Santa Monica). I am particularly interested in any
kind of field trips or group activities people might be doing. My daughter has
no particular special needs, is extremely gifted in art and science, and
somewhat above average in other areas. So, whatever would be appropriate for
5th-6th graders would probably suit her just fine. She is already in a sport
where she has practice 2-3 days a week, but I think some educational outings
would be nice for both of us.
