Anyone from New Mexico?
|
Question:
Anyone from New Mexico?
Answer: -From the looks of it, homeschooling requires
notifying the school district. There are
requirements for record keeping and the number
of days of school but it didn't look like those
need to be turned in to anyone.
Does she like it though? From what I've been
able to find out the area looks rather nice in a
lot of ways. Housing prices are low and from
the real estate listed on the internet it looks like
we'd be able to get "horse property" with an
easy drive to town. (I'm not wanting a horse
so much as chickens.)
I have an older cousin who lives there and
who really likes it there, I'm told. I suppose
I ought to call him.
The *job* in Albuquerque sounds like it would
be a good one. Seattle was more of a general
"lets go look for work" destination. He hasn't
got an offer from the company in Albuquerque
yet, but they're the ones who got hold of *him*.
Someone's been praying haven't they.
-Be advised that New Mexico is in the midst of a draught, water
availability will be a premium consideration. Northern New Mexico is
not dry desert, it is more like mountainous Northern California, only
drier at this time. Southern New Mexico is dry desert and is likely to
stay that way for a while. There is as much animosity between Northern
New Mexico and Southern New Mexico as there is in the two Californias.
In Albuquerque, they have "no burn" days during the winter where you are
not allowed to have a fire in your fireplace, and they do have cold
winters. In the summer, they have "no water" days where you cannot water
your garden or lawn, wash your car or splash the children. They also
have strict enforcement (including infrared equipment) and fines for
violators.
The homeschooling laws are very easy to comply with, file a notice and
keep records. Though I am unaware of anyone who has had to actually
produce them. Not to say they do not require them, just that in my
experience, it is not a hot pursuit item.
If your husband will not mind commuting, there are indeed some
reasonable country properties available. Again, be aware of the water
issues.
