homeschooling

Question:
I am a parent of a 4 year old son. My spouse and I are trying to
decide if we should, when the time comes, to either homeschool, or
send him to public or private schooling.
Answer: -Make a list of pros and cons for your family of each option.
For example,
homeschooling provides more one on one time.
homeschooling may require more preparation and
education on the part of the parent.
the local public school may have good programs.
(you would need to get into the school and research this)
the local public school may provide attitudes that you
as a parent dislike.
the private school may be far away or may cost a
lot of money
the private school may have a better curriculum for your
son.
-This would depend on many factors. Only three of which include:
1. Time available to spend with your child
2. Costs involved (very low for HS, minor for public schooling (depending on
state) and more for private schooling.
3. Interests; i.e., "social" concerns, educational concerns, family values
(including religious)
A "mix" may be used by starting with any of the three options, and changing it
to what you both feel is best over time, based on 1, 2, or 3 above.
Prior to making any decision, I suggest researching the various educational
organizations (and several parents) of each system, including the outcomes of
the various schools (and home-school organizations) in your area, as well as the
legal requirements within your state. You may be surprized by the results.
