Does anyone (Christian) H.S. in Tennessee?
|
Question:
My husband, three children and I are relocating to The Nashville,
Tennessee area. I need to find out the laws regarding homeschool there.
I have heard that it is rather restrictive but I just don't know where to
start to find out about everything I need to know.
Are there Christian support groups and co-ops there? Are there any
Independant Study Programs through local public schools ?
Is the local school district hostile to homeschoolers?
In short, I need to find out what we are getting ourselves into.
Answer: -I homeschool and live in Chattanooga. Tennessee home school laws are
not restrictive. You can home school through grade 12 with a high
school diploma as long as you go through an umbrella school, such as a
church-related school. Unless you register your child as being
homeschooled through the local school board you will never hear from
them. Homeschoolers in Tennesse are not required to take standardized
tests and you do not have to register your child as public, private or
homeschooled until they are 7 years old. You can find out about the
state law concerning homeschooling by contacting the Tennessee Home
Educatiion Association (THEA), or Home-School Legal Defense. Best
Wishes for your move to the Volunteer State! Joi Ramey
