I want to Homechool in Tennessee......Help!

Question:
I want to Homechool in Tennessee......Help! please tell me??

Answer:
-I saw this a couple of days ago and left it alone figuring somefrom TN might be able to help. But unless mindspring's newsserver missed it, there have been no responses.

Go to altavista and do a search on "homeschooling Tennessee." I found a bunch of sights that mention the laws as well as homeschool associations.

Could I make a suggestion to whom it may concern. If you are home schooling and it looks pretty likely that you are going to move (or might possibly move), look into this sort of thing prior to the move. -Greetings from Chattanooga! I think you will find it relatively easy to homeschool in Tennessee. Basically, you have two choices: register with the local school board or through a church-related school. There are two church related schools of which I am aware that register homeschoolers. You do not have to visit the campus to enroll your children. One CRS (Family Christian Academy) requires standardized testing at certain levels. The other (Gateway Christian Academy) does not require any standardized testing. You must homeschool 4 hours a day, 180 days a year, and you are pretty much on the honor system as to when and how you do this. If you register with a CRS, then you have complete freedom in choosing the curriculum, nobody visits your home, and you don't have to send in lesson plans. You do have to send in your attendance records and a list of what books you're using for each student. I know that FCA requires a registration fee, but Gateway only asks for a 'suggested offering'. You can homeschool through grade 12 with a high school diploma if you register with a CRS. If you choose to go through the local school board, then you must have a college degree to teach past grade 8. Contance Tennessee Home Education Association (THEA) or any of its appropriate branches (CSTHEA, MTHEA, etc.) in order to get a copy of the Tennessee Homeschooling Law, as well as the names and addresses of the CRS's you may want to consider. If you have any other questions, please contact me at the above email address.
