Homeschooling

Question:
Those of you who homeschool can you share some links and where you get your lessons/supplies? How do you schedule your days/lessons? How do you find other homeschoolers in your area? Keith and I have talked and we are leaning heavily towards homeschooling. We have come back to the homeschooling discussion repeatedly. We know it's going to take our serious commitment but from what we've read/seen it is quite worth it. Any words of wisdom?

Answer:
- My parents get a lot of their stuff from Christian book suppliers and such, but give me a couple of days and I'll see if my mom can suggest any regular sources that are good. I know the group my sister and brother were with is a registered school, which means they are listed with the state and they give out regular diplomas that indicate that the student has met state requirements. If you get a list of schools, probably private (maybe call your state educational association?), you can find some groups, and from there you can call a few and chat about the various activities they have for kids in your area. I don't know much about the practical aspect of it, but I think you're right that it will take commitment on your part - the more you're willing to put in, the more you and the kids will get out of it. I'd strongly encourage getting involved with a group though; they should be able to provide you with guidance/answers, information about state requirements, activities for the kids, standardized testing if you want/need it, legal protection, support from other homeschooling parents, etc. If we decide to homeschool, that's most likely the route I'd go also. I think it's really great that you're considering it!
