Wisconsin Homeschooling Requirements

Question:
Does anybody either know or know where to find the requirements for home schooling in the state of Wisconsin?

Answer:
-My husband and I joined the Wisconsin Parents Association (WPA) a few months ago. They have a great handbook that they have just updated. It includes the Dept. of Public Instruction forms, sample letters, legislation concerning homeschooling, and many more references.

You can check out the WPA home page at:

http://www.alumni.caltech.edu/~casner/wpa/

You'll find the order forms there. -The only legal requirement in Wisconsin is that prior to October 15 of each school year you file a form PI-1206, Home-Based Private Educational Program declaration.

Beyond that it is *recommended* that you keep 1) a copy of your school calendar verifying a minimum of 875 hours of instruction and 2) course outlines verifying that you're using a sequentially progressive curriculum.

The DPI sends a copy to your school district.

Form can be obtained from:

Wisconsin DPI Burea for School Management Services and Federal Aids 125 South Webster St. P.O. Box 7841 Madison, WI 53707-7841 -Here are two support groups listed for your state:

Wisconsin HOME (Home Offered Meaningful Education) 715-835-2869

Wisconsin Parents Association PO Box 2502 Madison 53701

The first group will be able to point you to someone local to you that can tell you the appropriate steps to take. -The Big Book of Home Learning lists two groups

Wisconsin Home Offered Meaningfull Education W. 6442 Schilling Rd. Onalaska, WI 54650 608- 783-7779
